Where is Nibiru?

Question posed by Dennis

What is Nibiru?
Nibiru, alternatively called Planet X, Nemesis or Eris*, is a large planetary object that certain groups believe will be involved in a either a collision or a near-miss with Earth some time towards the beginning of the 21st century.

The concept. according to my research, seems to have been first mentioned in 1995 by someone named Nancy Lieder, who founded the website ZetaTalk**, a website which details Nancy's chats with extra-terrestrials from the Zeta Reticuli*** star system.

To cut a long and highly imaginative story short, Nancy said she'd been chosen to let us know that an object would plough through the inner solar system some time in 1993, and cause life on Earth to be wiped out by a pole shift. This didn't happen. The date was understandably changed and made less accurate until it was leapt upon by the various groups that would like us all to believe that we're going to be wiped out in December 2012.

Just to make it absolutely clear, there is absolutely no scientific support for the existence of Nibiru or related objects. The image at the top of this post is of a red variable star known as V838 Monocerotis that resides around 20,000 light-years away in the constellation Monoceros. It has been falsely given as photographic evidence of the planet Nibiru.

So where is Nibiru?

As far as any reasonable evidence is concerned, Nibiru is located only within the imaginations of those who have unfortunately been drawn into this latest in a long line of doomsday myths. Again: there is no rationally collected evidence for even the idea that Nibiru (or Planet X, or Nemesis, or Eris) even exists.

* The actual myths attached to these different names differ in a number of details, but they're all basically the same: Scientifically unfounded space object causes Earth's destruction/ death of mankind.
** Go on, take a look. It's hilarious.
*** As far as I can tell, Zeta Reticuli is a real star system. It is a binary system located in the constellation Reticulum, and is about 39 light-years away from our solar system. Unfortunately, due to its part in this myth, and the Betty and Barney Hill abduction claim in 1961, it's quite difficult to find any real, untainted and scientifically supported information about it.
