Meteor hunters: Leonids on show!

Just a heads-up for meteor fans: The Leonid meteor shower is in full swing, and peaks tonight (Tuesday 17th November). The best vantage points are said to be in Asia, but if the peak lasts a little longer than expected, the tail end of it will be visible from Europe in the early hours of tomorrow morning. The display will tail off over the next few days.

The Leonids are so-called because they appear to radiate across the sky from a point in the constellation Leo and are fragments from the tail of comet 55 P/Tempel-Tuttle which last visited the vicinity of the Earth in 1998.
