What Does Lightning Look Like?

Here's a fascinating .gif showing what happens during a lightning strike slowed down many, many times. This is what lightning would look like if our brains could keep up with it. Wow:

Notice how the lightning strike starts with 'feelers' spreading out towards the ground, but the lightning strike itself actually surges upwards from the ground once one of the feelers reaches it.
